New Tutorial: Sharing Knoll Flares Across Apps
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

In a previous QuickTip I showed you how you could share your Magic Bullet Looks presets from app to app and from user to user. But did you know you can do something similar with Knoll Light Factory Flares?

Red Giant Quicktip #20: Sharing Custom Flares Across Apps

In this Quicktip, Aharon Rabinowitz shows you how you can easily share Lens Flares/Custom Lenses you Create in Knoll Light Factory between After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop (and more) – and how you can share them from user to user. This allows you to quickly achieve consistency throughout your project, even if it spans from print to video.

WOW! Magic Bullet Denoiser is A-A-Amazing!

Hi folks – this was just posted to Vimeo by Richard van den Boogaard. A great video showing footage shot under low light (with lots of noise) and then followed by the footage cleaned up with Magic Bullet Denoiser (also color graded in Magic Bullet Looks).

WOW! Magic Bullet Denoiser is A-A-Amazing! from Richard van den Boogaard on Vimeo.

Last weekend I recorded a clip inside a men’s room for a video I am editing (don’t ask). Anyway, it was way too dark in there. I chose to set the 7D in AV priority mode, as I was unable to touch the camera while on my Glidecam (handheld) and had to deal with some challenging lighting.

On the LCD the footage looked quite acceptable, but back in the edit it turned out to be one big mess of grain and noise. About to throw the footage away, I remembered having bought a new Denoiser plugin that came with the upgrade of Magic Bullet Suite 2010 from Red Giant Software.

As this video attests the plugin makes all the difference between an unusable clip and a quite acceptable one. Download the original to take a closer look on what the plugin does.

Camera: Canon 7D – Lens: Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 – Stabilisation: Glidecam HD-4000 (handheld) – Editing & VFX: After Effects CS5 – Plugins: Magic Bullet Denoiser & Magic Bullet Looks

When a Great Video Gets “Lost” in the Submission Process
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Monday, September 27th, 2010

Just saw this fun video spoofing the Smoke Monster from Lost, by Seth Worley, using Trapcode Particular.

Lost Promo Contest – “The Only Mystery Left” from Seth Worley on Vimeo.

About the video Seth says:

“I made this as a submission to ABC’s “Ultimate Lost Fan Promo” Contest, but ABC never posted in on their site. I emailed them to find out if they even received it, and just got back an automated reply. Oh well. Enjoy it here.”

Well, Seth, we at Red Giant absolutely loved it, so we’re showing it here. If we could have voted, we’d have voted for you.

By the way, Trapcode Particular was actually used in “Lost” – you can read more about it here.

Thanks to Nick Campbell for pointing us to this hillarious video making several references to our Trapcode products. Well, we think it’s funny, anyway. If you’re reading this, you probably will too. However, chances are your non-motion graphics significant other won’t even crack a smile:

Also Stan Scwartz, creator of the technology behind Red Giant ToonIt, sent us this really great cartoonized music video that he found:

Recently one of Red Giant’s favorite beta testers, Joey Morelli, sent us this terrific email and photograph of his son Cameron.

Joey, we want to thank YOU for keeping Red Giant in touch with who uses our products, how they can be improved, and what features are really needed. This ‘thank you’ goes out to all of our beta testers, customers and community who are supportive and helpful. Keep up the great work (and we will too).

We had a lot of great entries for our Plastic Bullet contest, but, ultimately, we had to choose only 3 winners. And here they are:

A fantastic shot, right out of a magazine I am not hip enough to be reading.

Thanks again folks for your fantastic entries. It was truly painful bringing it to just a final 3, because we really loved so many of the shots.

And the winner is…

And the Random winner of the Plastic Bullet Contest is @texasmwade. This was @texasmwade’s picture:

The picture also included the following caption:

“This is my entry for the iPad contest! Hoping a hot chick and a bitchin’ 1981 Z28 Camaro are things you guys like! It’s a cool app!”

Thanks! We think the App is pretty cool too. And the good news is, whether we like bitchin’ cars or not – Dude! You won an iPad.

FYI – We used Rowfeeder.com to capture all entries to the contest. After removing any posts that were ineligible (based on the contest rules), we used Random.org to randomly pick the winner from list of contestants.

But now on to 2nd Prize… We’ll anounce the skill-based winners next week. We have to go through them as a team, here at RG. We’ll let you know soon. Thanks to everyone for their great submissions!

What an awesome holiday weekend! While I was hanging out on the beach, and attending a wedding in my best pair of jeans (not kidding), you were all busy sending in your incredible entries for the Plastic Bullet contest. Here are some of our favorites:

Don’t forget – today is the last day to enter. So if you haven’t already, get yourself Plastic Bullet for a mere $1.99 and ENTER THE CONTEST NOW!

IMPORTANT NOTE: you can use ANY camera to take the picture, it just has to be processed with Plastic Bullet. But even if you’re not a pro photographer with serious camera equipment,  you still have as much of a chance as anyone else to win an iPad.There will be additional prizes awarded based on quality, but for the iPad, it’s open season!

Plastic Bullet Contest – Day 2

Alright – things are starting to heat up! Tons of entries in the Plastic Bullet contest, and we’re getting some great stuff. We’re seeing kids, creatures of all sizes, architecture, not to mention some bordering on the macabre.

Plus, that rock concert image (or is it a book club meeting?) by @BryanVFX is definately at the top of my favorites so far.

IMPORTANT NOTE: you can use ANY camera to take the picture, it just has to be processed with Plastic Bullet. So break out your Cannon 700D’s with a 15 bajillion MM lens that costs more than a house. It’s all good.

But hey – the good news is, even if you’re not a pro photographer with serious camera equipment,  you still have as much of a chance as anyone else to win an iPad.There will be additional prizes awarded based on quality, but for the iPad, it’s open season!

So if you haven’t already, get yourself Plastic Bullet for a mere $1.99 and ENTER THE CONTEST NOW!
