Looks 2.0 Good to Go with FCPX 10.0.4

Well, that was fun! As you may have seen already, a recent update to FCPX ended up causing a bug with Previews in Magic Bullet Looks 2.0. We jumped right on getting a fix in place and are happy to say that the fix is ready to go! So, go ahead and update FCPX, update Looks to the latest (2.0.7) and you’re good to go.

To get the update, either use the Red Giant Link updater already on your system or you can download the latest installer here.

We didn’t want to hold back a couple of other fixes we had in the pipeline so the full details on this Magic Bullet update include:

  • Looks 2.0.7 fixes the Preview issue (image inversion and/or doubling) when used after updating to FCPX 10.0.4.
  • It also fixes “hands on” mode in the Magic Bullet Looks application on OSX.
  • Sony Vegas users will also notice we have fixed the issue with Looks not respecting the “assume Linear Gamma” setting.
  • In all host apps, the Hue/Saturation tool is now available in the Subject category as it was meant to be!
  • In other Magic Bullet news, we also took a look at Grinder and fixed the issue many users have reported where Grinder would crash on launch on OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard) systems.

    Thanks for the quick update!
    I do still have a problem though.
    When I apply the effect and close fcpx – after reopening I cant edit the effect anymore. Looks no longer shows up on the clip display.
    I have to remove the effect and reapply it again to edit it.
    As long as I do not close FCPX everything works as it should…
    I tried everything – reinstalled FCPX and MBL but do get the same error again.
    Any ideas?

    @Carel If the Magic Bullet overlay does not appear on your video, try going to the video properties for that video and click the Magic Bullet Looks header in the properties page. The overlay should appear then. For some reason, FCPX needs the current plugin to be highlighted in order for the overlay for that plugin to show up.

    Yes. + 1 for Colorista II. . .

    What is taking so long with this release? Something else is going to come along soon and then a loyal customer base will be gone for good.

    Looks just does not have the capability or finesse of multilple instances of CII.

    It’s been about a year. . .surely something is in the pipeline. Apple have updated FCPX 4 times since it came out. . .

    Another +2 for Colorista II

    Made a jump to FCP X, confirming Looks 2 was ported over. Just thought Colorista II was a given… Oops. Will it help if I send donuts to the devs every Friday? Or will that just slow them down? Is it in the roadmap yet?

    Unfortunately at this time we do not have an eta on the release of FCPX and Colorista II. There is some limitations within the host that we are still working on.
