After Effects CS6 Update: 11.0.1
By Aharon Rabinowitz
Published on Thursday, June 14th, 2012

We recently got this from our friend Todd Kopriva at Adobe:

The After Effects CS6 (11.0.1) update includes some major fixes for caching bugs that are especially relevant to users of some plug-ins.

http://adobe.ly/Li3x61

We strongly recommend you update. Here’s why:

  • Light aware effects will now update properly when making changes to AE lights.
  • Orthographic camera views will now render properly in effects that use them.

Not sure what that means to you? Well, among other things, it will fix issues that have shown up in:

  • Trapcode Particular
  • Trapcode Form
  • Trapcode Lux
  • Knoll 3D flare

If you have any of these plug-ins, updating to After Effects 11.0.1 is critical for them to work properly.  Again, we strongly recommend you do that as soon as you can.

FCPX 10.0.5 – Grab the Magic Bullet Looks Fix
By Andrew Cheyne
Published on Monday, June 11th, 2012

Today, Apple pushed out an update for Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5) that breaks compatibility with Magic Bullet Looks – essentially, preview images will appear inverted in the Looks Builder app. Our friends at Apple made sure we were aware of the change and worked with us so we could have a fix waiting for you as soon as we could. This fix is now live – grab it here.

What’s new in Magic Bullet Looks 2.0.8

  • Fixed compatibility with Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5. This fix is backwards compatible with previous versions of FCPX. Without this update to Looks, images can appear inverted in the Looks Builder app.
  • This update also includes a fix for importing larger frame sizes into the Looks Builder – you can now import frames up to 5k in size.

Enjoy!

Red Giant is Hiring!
By Andrew Cheyne
Published on Thursday, June 7th, 2012

I’m going to keep this short and sweet – Red Giant is hiring. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Magic Bullet product team. If that’s all the info you need, you can grab the job description here.

It’s tough to keep this short and sweet, though, because I really feel like this is a special opportunity. I love working at Red Giant; it’s really an amazing place to work. Ask any of us. Actually, if you know any of us personally, you’re probably really tired of hearing about what a great place it is. So, when it comes time to recruit someone to the team, I feel a bit like I have a golden ticket to hand out!

I’m not just talking about working on amazing products (though that helps!). I’ve personally worked at a number of different companies that have developed some pretty amazing products. Red Giant approaches the work/life relationship differently than any other workplace I’ve been part of. If you want to hear more and think you have the skills we’re after, just grab the job description here and drop me a line – I’d love to hear from you!

I know most of you who read this blog are our customers and not necessarily software developers yourself. Feel free to pass this along to your software developer friends – let them know about a unique opportunity to join a great company.

Thanks,

Andrew Cheyne – Red Giant’s Engineering Manager
