Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6 – Get it now!

Hey folks – you probably caught the fact that Apple posted a ridiculously feature-rich update to Final Cut Pro X. It includes things like:

  • XML 1.2 featuring metadata import and export for richer integration with third-party apps
  • RED camera support with native REDCODE RAW editing and optional background transcode to Apple ProRes
  • MXF plug-in support that allows you to work natively with MXF files from import through delivery using third-party plug-ins
  • Dual viewers, each with a video scope display, let you compare shots to match action and color
  • Enhanced Audio workflows
  • Lots more.

We know what you’re thinking – you want it NOW!!!! But you also might be wondering if Red Giant FCPX plug-ins are compatible with the latest version of Final Cut Pro.

Well… They already are, and you don’t have to do a thing.

Rest assured – You can update FCPX with confidence. We worked closely with Apple as we tested our products for compatibility. Those products include:

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to some last minute changes in XML formatting for FCPX 10.0.6 that we did not catch right away, if you update to 10.0.6, you will encounter issues while using PluralEyes.  Our engineers are hard at work to get an out to you as soon as possible that solves this problem.  We’ll let you know as soon as the fix is ready. We are currently testing and re-evaluating other performance issues with Magic Bullet Looks in Final Cut Pro X  and will post updates when we have more information from our Engineering Team.

I know that was one of my first thoughts. Thanks for the update.

  2. Nathan Says:

when is Toonit going to work on FCX???

  3. Tapio Haaja Says:

Great update! I hope you’re still pressing Apple to build better support for non-square video material because now Looks and Mojo are unusable for example with anamorphic SD because all material gets blurred. It seems FCPX feeds video material to motion templates as square pixel so there’s lot of not wanted scaling happening back and forth.

  4. Glenn Gallagher Says:

Have noticed green flashing glitches when using Magic bullet looks
and FCPX 10.0.6. Was working fine on the footage I had edited using 10.0.5 and Looks.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

I had the same problem with FCPX 10.0.6 and MBL… I have a Mac Pro mid 2010 16 gb of ram and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB….. no problem with the 10.0.5 release…

I’ve got warning FCPX when I push Export button ” no declaration for attribute videoAngleID of element mc-clip”
With pluraleyes 2.0 the same result .
If I don’t check ” create multicam ” and open XML manually from FCPX , file from Mark III looks like still image. In FCPX 10.0.5 everything was OK .
And in pluraleyes 3 futage from mark III ( all-I compression) paint with red color

    Fcpx 10.0.6
    Pluraleyes 3.0.3
Camera futage from Canon mark III , canon D60

  14. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

This is a known issue with Magic Bullet Looks and the recent update with FCPX 10.0.6. We are diligently working with Apple to resolve this issue.

    Hi

I’m having flashy issues as well. I’m not getting green flashes I’m getting purple flashes and inverted frames on almost every clip. Using MBP 13 inch retina, 10.8.2

  18. alfred broadbent Says:

my platform is FCP X with the recent update

  19. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

    Alfred,

  20. Ron Priest Says:

I certainly hope this is high on your priority list! FCPX 10.0.6 will have been out 3 weeks in a just a couple more days. This bug makes Looks completely unusable. Additionally, why in the world you don’t change the information on the top of this page is beyond me. Why would you recommend people to go ahead and upgrade to FCPX 10.0.6 stating that Looks is compatible, when it’s clearly not? How about giving us some type of update on how close you are to fixing this issue? It would be greatly appreciated.

  21. FurryToes Says:

You seem to have one sentence added (“We are currently testing and re-evaluating other performance issues…”) to this announcement which I guess is a reference to the green/purple flash problem but can I suggest it should be clearer & specifically mention flashes – or whatever the best terminology is to describe it.
Especially because this affects output (unlike last time this bug surfaced). So I’m basically waiting for this so I can render a particular project (it’s not that important and I’m too lazy to rollback to 10.0.5 to do it).

  22. Greg Says:

Is there a fix/update coming in the near future?!?

  23. David Abraham Says:

Also getting the green glitches in mojo. Makes me very wary of buying plugins anymore.

  24. Rupert Says:

Does anyone have any kind of workaround for this? Occasionally it solves the issue when I cut the clip with the blade tool and it has to re-render. Although recently this has just caused more green/purple artefacts to appear.
    Thanks

  25. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

    Rupert,

There is no workaround at this time. We are currently waiting on an update on Apple.
We will make an announcement when this has been resolved.
    Thank you,
    Kaylinn

  26. Rupert Says:

OK thanks Kaylinn, any idea on timescale? Or is there any way to downgrade either bullet looks or final cut pro x to get back to work in the meantime?
    Thanks again

  27. Colin Says:

It seems to be specific to certain mac models? On my mid 2010 MacBook Pro with nvidia 330m I haven’t seen any issues with magic bullet and fcpx.. Yet anyway (crosses fingers)

  28. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

    Ron,

This is a known issue within FCPX 10.0.6. Apple is aware of this issue and we are currently waiting for them to release an update.
Rest assured, we are as eager as our customers for this to be resolved.
    Thank you for your patience.

  30. Gareth Butcher Says:

others have releassed updates to their plugins to work with 10.0.6 – when are you guys going to? i can work with everything else but MBL…

  31. Aharon Rabinowitz Says:

What “Others?” Different tools are designed differently and that means that how they interact with Apple’s technolgy varies. Would love to know what products you are referring to.

The issue we’re facing seems to be an FCPX issue – not an issue with our specific Plug-ins. We’re working with Apple to isolate and troubleshoot – so we can get our tools back in there.

  32. Darius Says:

This does appear to be an fcpx issue, as I’ve had the same issue with other plugins as well.

  33. chris Says:

No offense, I love what you guys create but I would think that it’s more reasonable to expect that the plug-ins are made compatible with the NLE, not the other way around. One function I would love to see that probably WOULD require Apple part would be that your plug-in would be underneath the initial color board. That way you could actually see the balanced shot in the MBLooks interface. Having MBLooks on top of the Color Board makes balancing and matching shots very tedious. Anyway, I hope you can figure this “cat and mouse” game out with Apple, as it seems to break after every update. Cheers

  34. Matt Says:

There are definitely serious 10.0.6 compatibility issues on my Mac Pro, these inverted frames and green and magenta frames have made Looks unusable on my system and has badly delayed a client delivery that had to be repeatedly re-renered. Very disappointing.

  35. Darius Says:

One final note is that the color wheel inside the looks builder for the Hue/Saturation and Saturation tools appears to be non functional. For some reason the guider is positioned all the way into the greens, and when moved throughout the color wheel no changes are made to the actual video. I’ve tried it on a couple of systems and the problem has been consistent.

  36. Ron Priest Says:

This is Bull! Red Giant is being as deceitful as Adobe. It makes no difference who’s problem it it, MB Looks is not compatible with FCP X and you need to state that fact of the product overview page instead of holding your breath waiting on Apple to release a fix and only talking about the problem here in a thread that no one is going to read until after they have purchased Looks and banged their head agains the wall for a month wasting their time troubleshooting a known issue.

  37. Mónica Says:

can please tell me where you can download the update for magic bullet looks (final cut pro x 10.0.6) Tthanks

  38. Theodore P Rysz III Says:

I have recently updated to FCPX 10.0.6. When I grade footage using Magic Bullet Looks 2.0, some frames of the footage are flash with purple and green colors. Additionally, some frames are flipped upside down.

  39. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

This is part of the issue that we are currently waiting on Apple to release an update. We are hoping that this will be resolved soon.

  42. Greg Says:

Looks like FCPX 10.0.7is out. Lets hope that fixed the above issues. Anyone try it out yet?

We are just as anxious as our customers to get this resolved.

  44. Ron Priest Says:

On you’re support page you state: “We have found it difficult to reproduce the issue in Compressor 4 and for those of you who own it, this might be a good workaround while we wait for a full fix in FCP X.”

Anyone there at Red Giant care to explain what you mean by this statement?

  45. FurryToes Says:

Ouch, 10.0.7 came out so fast too and being only bug fixes, you’d think it would have been the one!

  46. FurryToes Says:

I can confirm that using Compressor (4) renders videos that don’t exhibit any purple or green flashes (that otherwise plague the same video when using FCPX’s output options eg Share). It’s a good enough workaround for me.

For Ron, I’m not RedGiant but basically, if you “Send to compressor”, and render your video that way, then you don’t get this bug. Which is obviously confirmation that the underlying fault is with FCPX and what it’s doing. And why RedGiant seems to be simply “waiting” for FCPX to fix the issue.
    (that’s all my understanding)

  47. Theodore P Rysz III Says:

Does anyone know if the new 10.0.7 version fixes the issue?

  48. jlaity Says:

Ver 10.0.7 might even be a little worse for me. MBL is pretty much unusable now.

  49. Ralph Rodriguez Says:

Any progress with the fixing Magic Bullet Looks flashing glitches in FCPX? Spent good money with Red Giant and I can’t even use my software.

  50. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

  51. Retro 8 Films Says:

    Hey Everyone,

I found that if I disabled the “COSMO” plugin via Looks, and re-rendered, it seemed to fix my issue with the flashing of colors or black frames. Try going one by one disabling effects and see which one the culprit is. Hope this helps.

  52. Rupert Says:

Hi, are there any updates on this issue?
    Thanks

  53. United broadcast Says:

Very frustrating! MB is simply unusable! Spending huge amounts of time trying to use work from former projects. FAIL!

  54. Steven Says:

very convenient to blame this glitch on apple.. meanwhile you are still advertising this product as fully compatible with FCPx.. excepts ITS NOT COMPATIBLE.. I’ve got upside down frames in my videos. Unacceptable. Refund please.

  55. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

    Steven,

Final Cut Pro X has a serious bug that is effecting many developers – not just Red Giant. We are all relying on Apple for a fix as we are unable to access the area causing the bug. Until that fix comes none of us can do anything about it. Here is a link to our refund form if you would like:
    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/support/buyers-guide/return-policy/

  56. Jake Says:

Now MB causes my FCPX to shut down completley. In the middle of a project ( WHICH I GET PAID FOR ITS MY JOB ) I get an error saying Final Cut Pro Quit Unexpectedly while using the LS3RendererCPU Plug – in. Guess what thats the MB looks. UNBELIEVABLE

  58. Ralph Stover Says:

MB Looks is pretty much unusable for me as well. Renders randomly exhibit flashing frames throughout the project. Lousy support guys, sorry. Any ETA on when this will be resolved?

  59. Kaylinn Solazzo Says:

    Ralph,

Unfortunately with this known Apple issue there is very little our support team can do. Please check out this post for more information and a possible workaround:

  60. chris Says:

Please stop offering this product to FCP X users until this issue is resolved. Totally dishonest to do otherwise, regardless of who wants to blame who as to why it’s not working.

  61. Stefan Says:

Issue was fixed today. Fcpx update available! Yeah!
