Are there advantages to using the 64-bit version of plug-ins in CS5?

Yes! The 64-bit plug-ins can access all the memory on your system. Plus, the new versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro are faster than previous versions. So you will see speed gains (depending on your system and graphics card). Note that if  you are using CS5 you must upgrade your Red Giant plug-ins.  Your existing 32-bit plug-ins for CS3 and CS4 will not work in CS5. To learn more, visit: Red Giant and 64-bit.

Do the Adobe CS5 versions of plug-ins work on Mac OS X 10.4 or Windows XP 64-bit?

No. The Adobe CS5 applications require a 64-bit operating system and Apple Mac OS X 10.4 is not a 64-bit OS. Microsoft did have a 64-bit version of Windows XP but this operating system is NOT supported by Adobe or Red Giant Software.
