In this episode of Red Giant TV, Aharon Rabinowitz shows you how to create the effect of text (or a logo) dissolving to sand and blowing away. You'll also learn how to reverse the transition, so that sand forms into text.

pre-comp or pre-render your keyed footage after it has been keyed. Particular is probably not seeing the new alpha channel.

My particles are fading out. How is this done? The only thing I can find is the Quick Maps but my particles aren't moving in any direction so they never fade. Is there a way to scale or fade the particles over time?
Thanks much, everything here at RG is amazing.

Hi Aharon,
thumbs up for that tutorial!
I stuck in that opacity part, really helped me out!
One thing to Peder, creator of TC Form: i don't understand why this and other parts are so elaborating in the settings of TC Form.
1.) There should be an option to set the particle distribution - especially for easy setup for reveal/vortex animation - accordingly to the comp/text/graphic size by one button/checkbox klick
2.) Also i'dto see the possibility to have an easier way to circumvent workarounds because of the alpha problem. It should be enough to set the opacity of the particle type to 100% to show the visibility of the object as it's original.
Awesome work on that plugin, but needs tweaking for sure.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Thomas

If you have Form 2, this tutorial might help you a little better: http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/videos/quicktips/item/281/

@ leon - I had the same problem what i did to work around it was create a new solid and animate a feathered ellipse mask across the word and set the blending mode to subtract, while it was generating to mask out all the unwanted particles.

April 14th, 2012 at 7:27 pmfrank says:

I have gone through the tutorial twice now and am still having the same issue as leon, and the solution definitely was not put the text into a precomp. I'm going to try it one more time and then leave it

@Leon - put your text in a precomp

I have a question, I think I finally have the technique down except for one thing, at the beginning of the animation when no text shows I can see particles, but when i watch your video, I don't see any untill the animation begins, your screen is completely black or is that just how it looks on the video. If not could you give me a hint at what I may have missed? Thank You.

Once I put the text wipe and build up into a new comp and add the form solid my text looks pixelated around the edges. I have the resolution and ram preview on full so why does it lose quality?

Its all working awesome for me...except..
My form particles are not vanishing. The stick around...moving about.
Some clarification on this would be awesome.

hi, I wanted to ask, how can I change the form particles?
i tried to change it to partucle type to custom and then choose my layer but it did not work....

August 19th, 2010 at 10:48 amMarvin says:

Can it be done with a JPG or PNG file?

November 29th, 2009 at 7:54 pmNoelle says:

When I applied form it made my text layer look blurry in addition to being under saturated. Adding an unsharp mask helped with this.
Thanks for an excellent tutorial.

Looks like a good tutorial, but can you use Particular 2 to accomplish the same thing? I'm not sure that I understand the difference with form over particular?

Good tutorial, love the plugin. I was wondering if there was a way to fix the transparency issue with "RED GIANT" text. When you have the form layer enabled with the text wipe, the text shows at 85% opacity when I put a regular picture behind it in the composition. Of course, when you show the text, its at 100% on the layers. Is this issue just the effect it has on items linked to the plugin? Would like to know if this is fixable. Thanks a ton.
