Cranking up the particles/sec combined with making my animation longer solved my problem. I was trying to cover quite a bit of ground in 2 seconds. /facepalm. :)

@ Jessica, try increasing the particles per second. I can get that exact same look if I lower my particles to about 200 per second. Try something2,000, or even 10,000 if you want a smooth look.

How are you getting the "ribbon" to looka single entity? I am using the same parameters as you and the only way to get a seamless looking ribbon is to not have it travel very far. Is there something I am missing?
