Last week, Game of Thrones took home its 7th Emmy for Special Visual Effects (and a ton of others), giving the show the most Emmy wins of any fictional series in television history. Naturally, we can’t think of a better time to bring you another episode of Cheap Tricks on creating VFX inspired by the show. This time Hashi will cover creating a zombie horde battle scene.

Don’t forget, if you don’t have VFX Suite, you can always download a fully functioning trial to follow along:

NOTE: This competition has now ended and the green screen footage is no longer available for download. Sorry, guys!

Now that you know how to create an epic battle scene, we don’t want to leave you at Winterfell without troops to take on the undead horde. So we’re giving you 75 green screen clips to use in your VFX shots. Download them at

Special thanks to for hosting the files!

Forget the Red Wedding, we have a Red Contest. OK, more like a Red Giant Green Screen Twitter contest, and you can take home a knighthood* and a license of all the tools we make (Trapcode Suite, VFX Suite, Universe and more). Here are the rules:

1. Follow us on Twitter

2. Post your video entry to Twitter with the hashtag #RGGreenScreen

3. Use our footage in your entry (does not have to be the main feature)

4. Include the link to this blog post in your entry (

5. Contest ends 10/8/2019 at 10AM PDT

Once all the entries are in, our team will pick our favorite for the grand prize. Two additional entries will win the single suite of their choice. Winners will be chosen entirely based on a series of complex judging algorithms, or maybe just whatever we think is cool/funny/epic/awesome looking.

Not sure what to post? Here’s an example:

Here’s my entry for the @redgiantnews #RGGreenScreen contest. Learn more about it at

(*Knighthood not valid outside of Westeros)

See you on Twitter!
