Universe Legacy

FAQs

How has Universe changed for 2.0?

There are a number of changes in Universe for the 2.0 release. Moving forward, we'll be creating stronger, more valuable tools for editors and motion graphics artists. We'll continue to release new effects and transitions, however Universe updates will be less frequent, so that we can focus on developing richer, more robust tools for your work.

Why did you move the free plugins into a Legacy section?

After watching usage patterns and listening to customer feedback, we wanted to simplify the experience and make Universe a stronger set of tools overall.

Can anyone access the Legacy plugins?

Customers who were using the Universe plugins before June 28,2016 will have access to the legacy plugins for as long as they use Universe. New users as of June 28 will only have access to the new Universe 2.0 lineup.

Where can I find the Legacy plugins?

The Legacy tools can be found within Link and can be uninstalled at any time. Once installed the plugins can be found under the Universe Legacy menu in your host app.

Will the Legacy tools continue to be updated?

No, Legacy tools will stay at their current build. If we see the usage is very high for a Legacy tool, we may choose to update it and bring it into a new version of Universe, but all the original versions will remain in the Legacy category as they were before 2.0.

Can I uninstall the Legacy plugins?

Yes. After installing Universe 2.0, on the Universe tab in Red Giant Link you will see an option to uninstall the Legacy plugins. Once you choose to do this, Link will remember this choice for future updates and will not re-install the Legacy plugins.

Can I still open projects that use the free plugins from Universe 1.6?

Yes, all projects using the free plugins will work with the Legacy plugins once they are installed.

Were all of the free plugins removed?

No. Based on the usage of the plugins, we decided to keep 22 of them. Some were merged to make a stronger tool overall (such as Two-Color Ramp and Three-Color Ramp which became the new Gradient Ramp). Most were given some updates to make them more powerful.

Were any of the premium plugins removed?

Yes. Based on usage of the plugins we decided to move 11 plugins to Legacy. We did however incorporate all 11 of the tools' functionality into either an existing premium plugin or into a new tool in the Universe 2.0 lineup:

Which plugins were updated with new features?  Will my older projects still open?

Your older projects will still open, and will load the Legacy version of the plugin that you originally used in the project. The original Universe 1.6 plugins have been moved to the Legacy section but the updated versions will be available within the main set of Universe 2.0 plugins.  Here is a list of the plugins that were updated with new features:

What happened to all of the ToonIt plugins?

All of the ToonIt stylize plugins have been incorporated into the new ToonIt Studio plugin located in the Stylize category. The ToonIt Transition plugin remains inside the Transitions category where it was before.

I never purchased a Premium subscription to Universe but have been using the free plugins. Can I still access all of the free plugins?

Yes, as long as you signed up for the Universe download before June 28, 2016 and the release of Universe 2.0, all the free plugins will be located in the Legacy plugin group, and you may continue to use them.

My trial version just expired? Can I still upgrade to Universe and have access to the legacy plugins?

As long as you downloaded your trial before June 28, 2016, then you will have access to the legacy plugins through Red Giant Link.
