Universe Utilities (Legacy)

A toolset created to solve your Post-Production conundrums that normally require extensive workarounds and headaches. 

Color and Gamma Conversion

  • The Use Layer checkbox allows you to choose a layer other than the one the plugin is currently applied to.
  • Choose the Layer from your timeline that you would like to have the Color and Gamma Conversion applied to to in the Layer drop-down menu.
  • The Gamma Conversion drop-down menu allows to to set the gamma space of the Layer to a new colorspace. The options for this menu include: sRGB to Linear, Linear to sRGB, Video Gamma(2.2) to Linear, Linear to Video Gamma(2.2).
  • The Color Conversion drop-down menu allows to to set the color space of the Layer to a new colorspace. The options for this menu include: RGB to YUV, YUV to RGB, RGB to HSL, HSL to RGB, RGB to Lightness.
  • The Channel Output drop-down menu shows which channel the conversion are affecting and will allow you to isolate a specific channel to display. The default setting is All Channels, Channel 1 only, Channel 2 only, or Channel 3 only. These channels correspond to the RGB(123)or YUV(123) respectively.

Compare Frames

  • Select the Layer from your timeline that you would like to Compare next to the layer you've chosen in the Compare Layer drop-down menu.
  • The Control Point controls allow you to reposition the center of the Center line on the canvas using the X and Y numerical controls or the crosshair selector.
  • The Angle slider lets you change the angle of the dividing line between the two clips being compared.
  • When clicked on, the Swap View checkbox switches the side of layer of the footage revealed to be the opposite of the default setting.
  • Use the Boundary Softness slider to feather the edge of the boundary between the two frames.
  • The Foreground Opacity slider allows you to make the side of the frame rendered transparent more opaque when raised up towards 100%.
  • You can isolate a specific channel of each of the layers of footage using the Foreground and Background Channel(s) drop-down menus.

Fill Alpha

  • Use the Fill Color eyedropper color picker to select the color you’d like to fill the alpha channel of the applied layer with.
  • After selecting a Blend Mode from the drop-down menu below, use the Fill Opacity control to adjust how transparent the color is when blended over the original layer.
  • Choose from the Blend Mode to get the desired look of the filled color mixed with the original layer.


  • Size
    • The Block Width and Block Height drop-down menus allow the user to set how much of the width and height of the video is shown in the frame. The default for this is One Half or you may choose: Full, Three Fourths, Two Thirds, One Third, or One Fourth.
    • Use the Scale control to adjust the size of the footage inside the frame after changing the Width and Height of your block of video.
  • Position
    • The Horizontal Position and Vertical Position drop down menu allow you to quickly change the location of your footage block into the Left or Right corners of the frames, move it towards the center, or change it from Top to Bottom.
    • For more precise control, you may use the X Position to change where it appears horizontally in the frame, or the Y Position to adjust its vertical position.
    • The X Offset and Y Offset sliders allow you to change the position of the video inside of the SplitScreen block without moving the position of the actual frame.
  • Bars
    • The Bar Width parameter controls what percentage of the edges are shown.
    • You may specify which bar edge is being affected by this control by turning on the checkboxes beneath the Bar Width. Choose from: Left Bar, Right Bar, Top Bar, or Bottom Bar.
  • Diagonals
    • The Diagonal Type of drop-down menu gives you the option for a triangular Diagonal shape that splits your video in half. Choose the Slant option that will slice your video at the corners so you are left with a polygon shape in the center of the frame.
    • The Invert Diagonal drop-down menu allows you to flip the shape of the diagonal or slanted polygon to cover different areas of the frame. Choose from Horizontal, Vertical, or Both, which will flip the shape both Horizontal and Vertical.

SplitScreen Blocks

  • The Points drop down menu allows you to choose from 3, 4, or 5 adjustable points. You may then change the position of these points to make a custom shape within the composition.
  • Use the Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom right, and Bottom Middle controls to set and keyframe your shape as needed.
  • The Frame Scale control allows you to shrink or expand the footage relative to the Splitscreen block so that you may fit the video area you need inside your custom shape.
  • Make further adjustments with the Offset control to move the video within your custom block.

Universe UnMult

  • Apply the plugin to the layer with a black background and by default Unmult will detect the black areas of the layer and turn them into a transparent alpha channel. Place the layer over the background of your choosing in your timeline to see the composited results. Uncheck Unmult to revert the layer’s black areas back into opaque pixels.
