WHAT IS RED GIANT UNIVERSE?

Red Giant Universe is a set of tools for editors and motion graphics artists. All Universe plugins are GPU-accelerated, and run within multiple host applications on both Mac and Windows. 

 

HOW IS UNIVERSE DIFFERENT FROM MY OTHER PLUG-INS?

Since Universe tools are GPU-accelerated, they are much faster than the tools you are currently using inside your host applications.

 

ARE ALL OF RED GIANT'S PRODUCTS AND SUITES INCLUDED IN UNIVERSE?

No. Red Giant Universe does not include any of our plugins from Trapcode, Magic Bullet, Shooter or Keying suites. There are versions of a few of the tools available in the Effects Suite which have been ported over to Universe, but not the entire suite.

 

WHAT ARE THE SUBSCRIPTION OPTIONS?

Universe is available with one of two subscription plans:

  • Annual: $99/year
  • Monthly: $20/month

CAN I TRY THE UNIVERSE TOOLS BEFORE SUBSCRIBING?

Universe is available as a 14-day, fully functional trial. After 14 days, they will render with a red X watermark.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY SUBSCRIPTION LAPSES?

Your Universe tools will be watermarked with a red X. To remove the watermark, you can re-subscribe at any time.

 

I HAVE A LOT OF “RENDER-ONLY” MACHINES. DO YOU OFFER ANY KIND OF LICENSING FOR THAT?

Not at this time. Stay tuned for more information on the status of Render-only licensing.

 

DOES THE QUALITY OF THE TOOLS COVER PROFESSIONAL WORK?

We’re delivering all effects at the highest quality possible. Our render engine often yields better results than the host applications for tasks like motion blur, multi-sampling and anti-aliasing. All Universe plugins render in 32-bit float or trillions of colors output. Our engine is floating-point capable, which means you will see the smoothest output possible.

 

I WANT TO GET STARTED EVEN FASTER. ARE THERE PRESETS?

Yes, there are built-in presets for many tools, including a preset browser that makes it fast and easy for you to drop an effect into a project. 

 

I RECOGNIZE SOME TOOLS FROM EFFECTS SUITE. WHY WOULD I WANT THEM TWICE?

There are currently three tools that have versions in both Effects Suite and Universe. For two of them, the Universe version has been retooled to be faster (ToonIt Studio is 10x faster, Knoll Light Factory EZ is 5x faster). We've also streamlined them with fewer controls so you can work faster. Universe tools work with multiple host apps - in the Effects Suite they may only support a selection of those.

 

WHAT IS A RED GIANT ID? HOW DO I GET ONE?

Your Red Giant ID is your customer login to your account. It is your access to Red Giant products and purchases on our site, as well as within our Red Giant Link application.

 

WHAT IS RED GIANT LINK?

Red Giant Link is an application that detects your Red Giant products and their individual version numbers for upgrades and updates when available.

Link also checks the license status for your products, and displays any trial you may have. Should you decide to purchase any of your trial products, simply click the Buy button.

Use the Universe tab within Link to start your Universe Trial or manage your Universe subscription.

 

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD/INSTALL UNIVERSE?

  1. Login to the Red Giant website with your Red Giant ID, or create a new account if you don't already have one.
  2. Go to the Universe product page, and download a trial for either Windows or Mac. This will install Red Giant Link on your system, where you can see the details of any Red Giant products you own.
  3. The Universe tab should be open, and you will see a button to INSTALL the latest version.
  4. If you already have a previous version of Universe installed, Link will let you know when a new version is available to install.

 

WHY DO SOME TOOLS DISPLAY A RED X OVER MY FOOTAGE?

The red X is a watermark that indicates your trial or subscription has ended.

 

WHAT HOST APPS ARE SUPPORTED IN UNIVERSE?

WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFO ABOUT MANAGING OR CANCELLING MY UNIVERSE PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION?

Monthly subscribers do not qualify for any type of refund other than our Red Pledge  30 day money back guarantee after purchase. Simply click the “Cancel” button in the Universe tab when signed into Your Account area on the web and your subscription will expire 30 days after the last payment was made and will not auto-renew. Universe plugins will then render with a red X watermark.

Annual subscriptions qualify for a full or partial refund depending on when it was purchased. If you would like to cancel within 30 days of purchase, you will receive a full refund. After 30 days, the refund will be 50% of the remaining value in your subscription. For example, if you still have 9 months remaining in your subscription, we will credit you with 9 months of value at $8.25 per month divided by 2. In this example a credit of $37.13.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T AUTO-RENEW MY SUBSCRIPTION, OR I NEED TO UPDATE MY BILLING INFORMATION?

The Red Giant Link desktop app shows the status of your account. Depending on your subscription type, Link will validate your billing info every 30 days or 365 days. If Link cannot auto-renew your membership, you will be sent an email warning that Link could not auto-renew and your plugins will expire in approximately two weeks.

If your credit card is expired and you have a Universe subscription, Link will try over a two week period to charge your credit card on file. If Link cannot successfully charge your credit card, then your membership will be considered “expired”. Once expired, Universe plugins will continue working but will render with a red X watermark.
